Living With Food Allergies Blog Carnival #27

Welcome to the food allergy blog carnival! Autumn's off to a great start with with these seasonal recipes and recent posts.
Recipes:

The wonderful fall recipes start with Maggie of Dog Hill Kitchen. She shares her luscious and beautifully photographed apples fresh from the orchard and dripping with caramel goo. These Vegan Caramel Apples are the perfect treat for anyone with a dairy restriction and some extra lollipop sticks.
Rianne from Art of Dessert is a professional pastry chef and food allergy mom making her first submission to the blog carnival. Her post, Dealing with Food Allergies, includes recipes for Banana Cupcakes, Vanilla Frosting, Applesauce Cupcakes, and Mini No-Bake Chocolate Cheesecake. The photo of the Mini Cheesecake has to be seen to be believed. With amazing goodies like these up her sleeve, I hope this isn't the last we hear from her!
Libby of The Allergic Kid bakes egg, dairy, and nut free Honey Apple Cookies perfect for Rosh Hashanah in Sweetest New Year Cookies.
Living with food allergies:
Wenat, the Allergic Mom of My Kid's Allergies, shares a successful start to Kindergarten in Cinnamon Buns and Roller Coasters with her two boys spiraling happily through sticky rolls from Linda Coss' first cookbook (some of them fried into donuts for a class activity) and amusement park thrill rides.
Linds of This Abode winds up summer with a review of her family's vacation at Lake of the Ozarks in Vacationing with Food Allergies. They found two accommodating restaurants worth putting on your list of places to eat with peanut and tree nut allergies.
Jennifer B. of Food Allergy Buzz shares her excitement about Zeer.com in New Food Allergy Resource. The site features ingredient listings from a huge supermarket database plus member reviews of products. Zeer communities include groups for five of the big eight allergens plus a gluten free group. Jennifer B. also put in a request for participants in the peanut surveys on her site.
Janeen of Our Story discovers a secret handshake is unnecessary when her child wears a medic alert bracelet in A Conversation Piece. She recounts her meetings with other food allergy moms who spot the bracelet and share her membership in the club to which no one want to belong.
Alisa of Go Dairy Free shares a great round up of allergy friendly snack ideas sent by readers in Three Cookbook Winners and Your Favorite Snacks. I love lists like this, which have something for everyone and are great springboards for creating new recipes.
Go Dairy Free also features a review of a new children's book by Sarah, the No Whey, Mama. Abby the Alley Cat: Staying Safe From Dairy! by Myronie and Sam McKee is a big hit with both her two year old and her first grader.
Beware the Jabberwock? No, Beware the corn tortilla, it could have wheat! Alison of Sure Foods Living has a dismaying discovery for those who are wheat or gluten intolerant: some of the corn tortillas which are staples in her gf diet have added wheat gluten to their ingredients. Thanks for the heads up.
Ria of Check My Tag sends in the third post of her interview with Kathy Van Voorhees, an attorney specializing in education, regarding 504 plans. How to Develop a Section 504 Plan for Your Child with Food Allergies is an indispensable read for parents of food allergic kids. I highly recommend Ria's entire series of posts about the interview.
In the news:
Alisa at Go Dairy Free sends in an article about "new disease" Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders by Loretta Jay of Foods Matter.
For a thoughtful response to Peta's suggestion to make ice cream from human breast milk, check out An Open Letter to Ben and Jerry's from Sarah, the No Whey, Mama. If you need a good laugh, be sure to also read her (unsubmitted) post He'll Be Here All Week. I'm still giggling.

Many thanks to Rational Jenn for allowing me to host and to everyone who sent in a contribution. Don't forget to use the carnival submission form to share your blog posts for the next carnival on October 16th with Alison of Sure Foods Living.

Thanks for hosting! The carnival looks great! (Love the "Jabberwocky" reference, too--one of my favorites.)
